PHILOSOPHY

When I prepare for a shoot, my goal is always to create a body of work that makes whoever looks at it — whether they see it while scrolling through their Instagram feed, or view it years later framed on a wall — say, “How did she take that?

I strive to cultivate photos that evoke feeling — not simply capture snapshots of a point in time. I want even the least artistically-minded person to feel something when they see my photos, whether it be peace, joy, anger, awe, or anxiety. Many photographers define themselves by a certain style, but when I look at my own collection of work, there is not a certain style I can categorize my work as. I am inspired by various types of photography techniques and editing styles and incorporate various aspects of those different types into each photo I take. However, something I always challenge myself to do when I shoot and edit my photos is to make ordinary, everyday subjects and settings seem unreal without compromising the their natural, true identity.

I always remember: I am not taking pictures, I’m capturing feelings.
